INGREDIENTS
1 and 1/2 cups of beans
2 cups of rice
Sorghum leaves (waakye leaves)
Water
Salt to taste
DIRECTIONS
Start by soaking your sorghum leaves in water and leaving them to sit overnight
To cook your beans, add enough water to a saucepan with your beans and boil on high heat.
When your beans are halfway cooked, remove the soaked sorghum leaves, set aside the water, and put the leaves on top of the beans, covering to cook until they turn soft.
Take out the sorghum leaves and follow in with your washed rice and the juice from the sorghum leaves.
Add salt to taste, stir thoroughly, and cover to cook until everything is soft and properly cooked.
Your waakye is cooked and ready to serve with accompaniments like gari, wele, salad, stew, shito and egg.
